~ Plot on the spot ~

"Consider it a race," Elizabeth smoothly interposed, stepping around her father's desk and addressing both pirates. "The British Navy will not be here in time to prevent a Spanish invasion. Port Royal is in dire need of aid. And so, whichever pirate destroys more enemy ships before they arrive at port will be allowed to keep fifty percent of the spoils of battle."

"Allowed?" Roberts said incredulously, forcefully grabbing the woman's wrist. "Little lady, Capt'n Roberts will damn well take whate'er he pleases."

"E-Elizabeth!" the governor yelled, jumping to his feet.

Ms. Swann smiled tightly, ignoring her father's worried cry. "You will release me, sir, and agree to our terms or the Crown will take the spoils as compensation, and I will personally see you dead."

"I wouldn't give th' Crown e'en th' barest drop o' rum," Roberts sneered.

The silence was punctuated by the cocking of a gun. "What makes you think I'm giving you a choice?"

The pirate's nostrils flared as he glared down, taking in the sight of a delicate white hand gripped surely around a riffle.

Jack, who had been watching the entire episode from a safe distance, hmmed thoughtfully and popped up from behind an elaborately cushioned armchair. "I'd let 'er go, mate. She's engaged," he whispered conspiratorially, gesturing as he turned away from the other captain towards the lady.

"Elizabeth, my sweet," he simpered, "You wouldn't have anything to do with my missing cabin boy, would you now?"

"Sora doesn't need to know," Elizabeth replied, answering with the slightest upward tilt of her chin while keeping her eyes firmly trained on the immediate threat. "You can tell him you're helping out of the goodness of your little black heart."

Jack grimaced.

"...How gracious of you."
